Slab photos and stuff

Today I put down a deposit which guarantees me granite from a certain batch of granite. The slabs are liked sliced bread with little difference between them. I only saw one full slab so these photos are from that. I didn't have alot of room. Once they measure on Aug. 24th I go back and with the fabricator pick out the actual slab and layout.

I like it more each time I see it.

Close up.

I will apoligize now for the upcoming rapid fire questions I'm going to have. We were moving along slow but steady when the town building department decided, no more extentions you must be done by Aug. 31st. There is no way we will be done by then but hopefully by Sept. 15th. So things are now moving must faster.

DH wants to paint first like he did with our master bath. Tomorrow I'm going to post three possible wall colors and will need your votes! My eyes are so tired of looking at stuff. Also will be looking for technical help with the bs layout.

Thanks for all your help to get me this far!

Looks lovely! Very nice!

Don't be fooled into believing that "slabs...little difference between them". Have you ever gotten a loaf of bread where there's been a big air bubble in one or two pieces? It happens in granite too. Well, not air bubbles, but anomalies - an abnormally dark splotch or a lack of movement or color. They are similar, but like fingerprints, each piece is unique and has it's own special characteristics. If there are several slabs in right now that aren't specifically reserved, I would try to go in and look at each of the slabs now and pick rather than them possibly being picked over and you get the remaining slab because others decided on their slab before you. Our fabricator had just two slabs of our stone - we're using a full slab and 1/3 of the other. She told us that both slabs are being held for us until we are ready. And though they are two sequential slabs, there is significant variation between the two slabs. We have actually decided on the 2nd slab (the one we didn't see originally) as our primary slab and the one that made us decide on what we went with as our secondary slab.

White Diamond aka Bianco Antico. Thanks!

Andrea, I do have a little concern too but this is how they work. There are 8 slabs. We measure on the 24th and can pick out the slab(s) then. In this area you don't buy a slab you pay per SF so it possible to have some from one slab and some from another, if there is an area to avoid. So if no one else measures for White Diamond before then, I will have 8 slabs to pick from. Lets hope!

I agree that BA varies greatly. I was looking at a couple of slabs, they didn't move them so you can see all of them, and the 2 I was debating between (which I liked but didn't love because I wanted a bit more brown) were sold to someone else after I left. I went back the next business day when those 2 were removed and my "perfect" slab was revealed. It had much more brown than the other two which were more black and white. Maybe your sales person can call you when/if any of them are moved so you can keep your eye on the inventory. This way you can actually pick the one you want if the jaw-dropping-slab of your dreams is revealed.

Lovely pics by the way. Isn't it exciting?

Bee, Good idea. I'll send her an email. Exciting yes but trying to decide the bs and paint is making me crazy!

Beautiful slab, similar to mine. What color are the cabs going to be?

When picking out my lots-of-movement slab, there were three all stacked. The woman told me they were basically the same, but not surprisingly, they were NOT! Here are the ends of two different ones side-by-side.

Bee's idea is good - hopefully that works. :)

We also are buying by the sq ft., just so happens that we need 1 1/3 slabs. We have to use all of one slab and then we can pick whatever part of the first or last 1/3 of the 2nd slab we want, just not the middle since it would give them 2 small pieces to try to sell instead of one medium sized piece.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hope that you get to pick your favorite from all 8 slabs. :)
