I have a teppertopper for mine. It is like a giant cutting board. I have a small island and love having the extra usable surface with the teppertopper.

We cut a board to the measurements of our cooktop. I folded a tablecloth (any pretty fabric would work)over the top and stapled it on the back. Our kitchen is small with limited counter space. When we have a party and need serving space, we just put the board on the cooktop.

Sorry..I just saw that they are unavailable under further notice. I wonder why. I love mine! I thought I bought mine from teppertopper directly, but I can't seem to find it. It has been a few years. Sorry.

Flammable wood on top of a flame source... Just does not sound like a great idea to me. Old style enamel stoves in the early to mid 20th century sometimes had enamel tops for the burner area.

An electric smooth surface cooktop would be the answer. I assume that you have already ruled that out?

Only if your problem with it being under the window does not have anything to do with using it, since you cannot use the cooktop with the cover on.

I like the idea of the wood cover, but I think it is a hazard. I bet a sheet metal shop could make something in stainless steel that would be similar. You wouldn't be able to cut on it, but you could put serving dishes, etc., on it. Other non-flammable/burnable surfaces are hevy (Caesarstone, granite).
