BEFORE photo!

Hi all - Planning a remodel for this fall. My goals:

1) Keep existing island but add cabinets to make it a 4 x 8 island with plenty of seating. Paint it black.

2) Paint perimeter cabinets white

3) New white countertops - love marble, not sure I can live with it though

4) New oak wood floors w a dark stain

My most pressing question is regarding the island. I'd rather not rip out the existing structure and start from scratch. It's already wired and has plumbing so I'd just like to add to it and have a carpenter help me make it look like furniture. Has anyone done an island makeover where you add cabinetry, island legs, etc to an existing island? Looking to double it's size.

Also would love reco's on paint color and countertops.

I would like to see photos of all sides of that island. Your biggest challenge to simply adding on is the shape. Does the island sit atop the tile or does the tile run up to the island cabinetry?

The fact that you already have electrical and plumbing there is excellent, and should not deter you from just taking out the old island and replacing it with one the size and shape you desire. But you DO want to make sure you have the floor space for what you want while still maintaining proper aisle widths.

Measure out your kitchen and create a drawing to-scale on graph paper or computer software to really evaluate what you've got.
