Question about Silgranit sink strainer

Posted by sashasmommy (My Page) on

We are thinking of getting a Silgranit sink in Anthracite and I read that the matching sink strainers/drain covers are plastic, so I don't want that. Someone said they were going to get a stainless steel one from another manufacturer, but I noticed that they have a satin nickel strainer that is made for the Silgranit sink and our faucet is satin nickel. Has anyone used the satin nickel one before, and is it okay?

Also, do you have to get a different kind of strainer/drain cover for the side with the disposal or is it the same on both sides?

Mine is ORB and works great. I can't remember who made it. If I go with satin nickel be sure to upgrade to the lifetime finish or go with chrome

I have the blanco in anthracite sitting in my dining room waiting to be installed... but that is another story... I opted to purchase a higher quality strainer and chose the Kohler one. I was going to order it on line but happened to stop at Home Depot and found it there for HALF THE MONEY... check it out! so worth the savings!

RE: Question about Silgranit sink strainer

I have a black one with shiny outer ... sorry; don't remember what the real composition is. I know only it cost extra and at the time had me furious with Overstock for slipping it in on my order without my noticing (long, dull story that). The salesperson explained she thought she was doing me a favor because "everyone" wants the colors to match like this and besides, the quality of the original strainer that comes with the sink is poor and they've had complaints.' I let it ride and have nothing for comparison, really. I must say the upgrade is still a little cheesy, at least compared with my krauss stainless steel sink's basket -- which is, BTW IMHO, excellent.

So - no comparison, unfortunately. Mine's OK-ish, not the worst I've had, not the best either. Definitely seemingly below the quality of the sink itself. The basket feels a little cheesy and as if it might break, though it hasn't at all of course (one year out).

I have black Silgranit bar sink with chrome strainer- I think we got at Lowes. They have different quality choices and we gotbthe top one. Been very happy with it - matches the chrome faucet.
