34" + 3" + 1.5 = 38.5" , so it seems to me you cannot do this and keep a reasonable counter height.

I guess I was comparing only to Kohler's Stages which seems to have the Prep area only 1 & 13/16 inches (46 mm) high. If the counter height is 36", shouldn't it work?

Well, the counter height maybe be 36", but you might be forgetting the thickness of the countertop (normally 1-1/4" to 1-1/2"). My dishwasher spec is 34" MINIMUM cabinet opening height.
