My island has what was called a brushed granite and best I can tell, the finish can also be called leathered. It may vary a bit with the particular stone and who finishes it, but I really like mine. I work dough on it no problem and it cleans up easily.

I have leathered antique brown granite (it's mostly black). It's great. Easy to clean, etc.

But I'm curious what you actually have. Is it a marble, granite or quartzite?

The coloration of your slab sort of looks like my white macaubus quartzite which is not a marble (it is like granite and is treated as such as far as the care and cleaning). I have that in polished on my island.

If you have marble, I would think that would be something you need to know as far as the care, cleaning, etc.

Have you gone onto the countertop geology thread? There are about 5 threads by now all about countertop rocks. If you read that and do the scratch and acid tests you will have a pretty good idea what you have.

I have leathered Magma Supreme and love it. No problem cleaning it. I roll out pie crust and dough on it without any issues. I love how the texture makes it look and feel. Still very happy with it after two years. Can't think of a single con.

It is quartzite. I'm told it is similar to the makeup of white macaubus. The colors are very similar. The macaubus looks like a vein cut version of what I'm getting

I'd just make sure my fabricator was capable of matching his new edges to the top.

I love my leathered black granite, too. I have found that my pie dough rolls out more easily on my quartz counter than on the leathered granite, but part of that may be due to the fact that making pies in hot weather is always a bit tricky! So far, maintenance has been very easy, and I love the way the counter feels.
