| I feel like a new Aunt. A Bianco Antico kitchen has been born.... Congrats. Yes, do share photos of the entire slab. |
|
| Congrats - I love how you have it all together! Keep us updated on progress! |
|
| ohh, it's going to be beautiful! I like that better than the black;) |
|
| Pretty combination. Have you considered a glass subway tile? |

| Like glass alot but not the price. In fact we were planning on glass tile for a while now. But the cost really adds up. I need 40 SF of field tile plus the pencil liner. (I love the vintage look of pencil lines)Even at $10 per SF thats 400 just for the field tile. I saw glass tile like what you posted and it was $23 per SF. Wow thats alot to us. This tile is $2.20 per SF. Really want to keep it under $5 per sf. I would be open to others but don't have a lot of time. We have a deadline due to our building permit. The tile must go in immediately after the granite so the range hood can be installed so I can starting cooking. Also need to match the outlets. Apparently awhile ago, I don't really remember but DH said I had to pick out the outlet color. So I picked this really light almond. I don't know why, but can't return it as some have been installed. DH would never go for painting them. So have to work with it. Sorry for rambling. I anyone has a lowcost tile you think I should check out, let me know. |

| Congrats! Another "new owner" for their slab!!! Can't wait to see pictures of your slab. I think your colors are going to go nicely. Would love to help you with ideas for your BS, but everything that we've looked at that we've liked has been pretty crazy in price. I think what you have will work well - it has a warm, comfortable feel to it. I think it will play a "supporting actor" role well to your granite. |

| Got it. I am very budget sensitive as well, I just don't have much wall space. With a quick look I was able to find this slightly smaller format glass subway tile mosaic for $6.99/sf (not just for a sample). If you look around (including ebay) you'll be able to do better. The granite is so beautiful, it deserves an equally beautiful, if more modest partner. I don't think you've found it yet, but I may be wrong. |

| Debrak, I'm so glad you went with the bianco! Your sample is really pretty. I just didn't think the black had enough interest for you given everything you said. |

| EAM44, I will look at ebay today and go to Lowes. In the last few days I've been to Besttile (that where the samples are from), The Tile Shop which just opened here (wow are they expensive!), and HD. How close should the outlets match the bs? Thanks to everyone you gave it a thumbs up. Wasn't looking for a rubber stamp but its good to know I've got a plan that will work. Wanted to add that the black line will help tie in our black appliances and black beadboard that will be on our island. |
|
| Outlets: Sand them and rough up the surface. It helps that some of my outlets were already the Mulberry brand that are "wrinkled" and paintable. Gave me courage. Just be a little careful when you plug things in. It is my opinion that outlets shouldn't be a focal point on something beautiful such as tile, hard wood, or even a gorgeous paint. They're not jewelery, they're utilitarian. Blend 'em in. |
|
| Love this. Your kitchen will be beautiful. Very similar to the Cold Spring granite I'm trying to decide about. |

| I love that stone! Just gorgeous. And a quick note about your hood and tile. I ran into the same pressure to get my bs up so the hood could be installed. When I posted here about it, people reassured me that hoods are easy enough to install, take it down later to tile, and then reinstall. It's been 8.5 months of kitchen use with a hood but without tile. Watching how easy it was to hang the hood on the wall, I know DH and I could do this ourselves for tiling. Good luck! |

| Christine, thanks for the info on how to paint the outlets. DH wants to live with them a while. If I stay with my current plan they should blend in. Rybren2, have you decided anything? I'm having a hard time keeping up with everyones projects. breezy, I think I'll keep that info under my hat for now. I don't want DH to think we can take a break and do it later, lol. It is good to know its not a big deal. |

| That's a really beautiful piece of White Diamond.. Looking forward to seeing the whole slab. I also think glass backsplash would be amazing with it. Those little sparklies (diamonds) in there kinda look like glass. |
|
| Saw your pic of the slab pic in the other thread. Very pretty and I think your counters will look fabulous. I'm another who thinks glass would look good. Honestly, on my monitor the BS you have picked doesn't work color-wise, nor does the paint. They have too much yellow in them. But, you said the paint chip disappears into the granite so maybe it's just my monitor. I'd take your paint chip, or a larger sample if you can, when you go pick your slab to see if it really works. Take your BS tiles too. Can be so hard to tell with small samples. And I wouldn't try to determine your BS color by the outlets you have purchased. They are cheapest thing in the kitchen and, as Christine has indicated, can be painted. You have the floor, cabs, and granite nailed down. Next on my list to figure out would be the BS, then the paint, and finally the outlets. What finish hardware and faucet(s)? Good luck with your remaining decisions! Can't wait to see the finished product! |

| This is clearance Jura Beige honed limestone tile from Stone Tile Depot for $4.99/sf which is a great beige option for you. Like most of the clearance stones on the site, it is a large format tile (18" x 18") you'd have to cut into subway tiles. I don't know whether installation would be more expensive, but it shouldn't be much more. My personal favorite with your granite is the Haisa marble in the post below. It is 16" x 24" and retails for $5.95/sf. You can remain in your budget, use genuine stone tiles instead of porcelain, and find an option that goes beautifully with your granite. Check out the Bellmont honed limestone and the Euro Beige honed marble as well (very little movement). |

| Wait - they have subway tiles as well - hidden under the 'flooring' section (of course). Check out Tuscany beige honed at $2.99/sf. It measures 2 3/4' x 5 1/2' |

| Here is a photo of tile with the slab. The granite looks darker here as there was not alot of light. I'm getting very conflicting opinions on the tile. I don't have alot of time as we are painting first. So as soon as DH has the subfloor leveled he will finish the drywall and want to paint. This is how he works and does not want to paint later around cabinets. We did this in our bathroom and it worked out fine. But we already had the tile purchased so paint was easy. I did change the paint color! I went to SW yesterday. I don't know if all the SW stores are like this but this one has really good helpful people. The person who helped me narrowed it down to two colors she thought would work best. I really liked them better then what I had picked before. She had suggestions about how to look at the items such as the tile and paint should be at 90 degree angle to the granite not flat. Basically put/hold the item where it will actually be as the color will look different. Like don't look at a ceiling color flat on a table, hold it above your head. Anyway you all probably know this stuff! The SW balanced beige does not appear to have yellow in it. Will try to post photo later. It does change the way the tile looks. ok back to tile. DH really doesn't want to have to cut the tile to subway size. He did this in the bathroom and wants to avoid that. Would you choose your paint color before your bs tile? I guarantee DH will not paint again if it doesn't work. Important I say that my DH is wonderful, does all this work himself and never complains. Has been working on this house for 8 years. Usually does what I want unless something is important to him. He just wants me to have things in place ready to go. So one (lol) of the questions today, can I pick paint and then the tile?
|
|
| You could pick paint first, but I'd pick tile first if possible. There are so many more paint options to be able to match to the tile and granite, and fewer tile options to match to granite and paint. I'm glad to hear you changed your paint color. That makes me happy! :) I was worried and debated about saying anything, but I just didn't think it was right. And I still don't think your BS is right. Just looked up your paint color and it seems much better, but do post a pic of it with your other things. I'm going to have EAM search for my BS when the time comes! =) Great looking options, and I'm really liking the color of the Haisa too, although when I see larger pics of it I think the vein cut may have too much movement. Gone South was doing a large format tile, and putting it up vertically. I wonder how her project is coming. You could maybe do that with the Haisa if you like it. Then you'd have a vertical line behind your granite. Can't find that thread though. |

| I just have a minute right now. Later will post the new paint color. We do like glass tile and if we could find it less than 10sf, and the right color, I think we would do it. DH likes the idea you don't need bullnose tile with glass apparently? EAM, the first photo you posted of some glass tile. To me is looks green. Is it? I actually like green glass tile with our cabinets. Sometimes the granite looks green. Would green glass tile in the right shade work? There is a staircase in the kitchen (on the other side of the room to the backsplash) that has green carpet and paint. Afraid it would be so hard to find the right shade of any color on the internet. Tried that with our bathroom. I will post some green paint chips with my stuff to imagine if it was green tile. Would small tiles be too busy with the granite? |

| EAM I mean the 2nd photo of glass tile. |

| Here is a photo of cabinet at top, left middle (third one down) new wall color, right middle same bs tile, bottom left is the wall paint of the staircase, bottom right the granite. Another photo. I still do like this tile. I also think a green glass tile like the green paint might look nice. Thoughts on new paint color? Keep the ceramic tile or try for glass? what color? |
|
| Like that paint much better. And, I like the BS tile in your last photo. Looks much more beige and less creamy yellow than it did on my screen in the first photos you posted. If you like it - since that's what *really* matters - go for it. As for small tiles - look up on houzz some pics of the small tiles. My personal opinion is that they look better with a more plain granite. |
|
| There are several colors available at that price including Crystal White (2nd glass tile above) and Delicate Mint, below. The lowest price I've found is on Amazon at $6.99/sf. I'm happy to help. I love fitting in the last piece of the puzzle, and I hate spending money... |

| I like the paint color, and think the Delicate Mint tile would be pretty with all options above. The Accessible beige might brighten things up more |
|
| OMG!!! Love all your choices, especially the granite. I LOVE THE GRANITE!!! I ended up choosing ivory sukuri which is a lot darker but if I would have had different cabinets then I would have picked something like you did. I just love it! Show some pics when you're all done! |

| EAM, Thank you for all the backsplash ideas. You do have a knack for finding tile. We did consider all the options for the backsplash regardless of price. We are going to stick with the tile I posted above. While the glass is cool, it just doesn't seem to fit the character of the house. Decided to use a thinner pencil line. The grout size will be up for debate. SW Balanced beige (2nd color) will be the wall color. Thank you all for your comments! |
