Peninsula / Layout Question

I have a big mess with my kitchen remodel so I'm trying to brainstorm ideas to finish my kitchen without too much extra spending.
My kitchen is next to the front door. At 25 7/8" into the house, the peninsula starts. Because the kitchen is between the door and a bedroom, I have a narrow kitchen. It requires custom sized base cabinets (they were 16" deep) on the peninsula. If I use regular depth cabinets (24", right?) that jutted 6 inches into the adjoining room, would it be horrible? Six inches is also the space between the door trim and the partial kitchen wall.
The floor space in my original kitchen was 45" so using 24" cabinets would reduce it to 43".
