Placement of Glass Cabinets

Is there a general rule as to where a glass front cabinet should go? Is it not recommended to put them on either side of the stove?

No.
Like all things decorating, it's up to you and your taste.

There are some obvious functional considerations, which you're mentioning in your latter sentence. Grease would impact those glass cabinets.

I would think I would place them where they'd be visible from a dining area or other place in the house, because I'd only want beautiful things in them.

I don't know if that helps, but no, no rules. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
