| New Member, thank you all for the wonderful postings on "everything you need to know for a kichen remodel, from toe-kick to molding". This first time kichen remodel requires sooo much research and members have been my go-to for advice.
We wanted to do IKEA, but the bottom cab left of the sink is a size they do not carry. We are stuck with our original blind-spot cabs because the kitchen is so small, very little wiggle room without getting into mucho $$$ by moving things around. Has anyone attched a piece of stainless to the wall of the fridge, because the stove is next to it? We are going to do butcher block on the peninsula from Hardwood-Lumber Company in Burton,Ohio. The counter around the sink is still up for grabs, everything is so expensive...looking at jet mist granite, but am open towards Ceasarstone, or Corian. Is that tricky having the butcherblock abut the other type of counter? I have a retired engineer to build white cabs, shaker style doors. Need help with the lights. Would like 2 pendants, that will use a regular light bulb and not shine in our faces when sitting down at the peninsula, and a 'can' light above the sink, and a couple 'can' lights elsewhere. We are looking at flourescent lights for under the cabs....we are around the Boston & RI area so if anyone knows of good fabricator, for counter around the sink, please let us know and any ideas about the kichen lay-out. Thanks |

| How much room do you have between the end of the peninsula and the storage cabinet by the base of the stairs. That would be an ideal location for the fridge if it didn't compromise the traffic too much. You might possibly even be able to recess it a bit into the bedroom closet to keep the same aisle space. That would give you counter space to either side of the range, which would vastly improve the functionality of the kitchen. Do you have a dining room? Or is the peninsula your only eating space? Because you could also turn the kitchen into an L shaped with an island and the fridge located to the right of the sink. You would lose the seating, but you would gain a much more functional kitchen. |

| Thanks Hollysprings for those good ideas. The idea we started with was moving the Fridge to the storage cabinet, pushing into the bedroom closet. You're right the functionality of the kitchen would be SO much better. But we didn't want to give up closet space in BR, plus it's a bearing wall, the hardwood floor would need patched, etc.... It all added up to much more money. Many drawings later, we decided we had to keep the floor plan the same, with a few 'tweaks'. Thanks again. |
