If the kitchen is open to another room, I prefer it without. It would make the area seem less kitchen-y and serve as a transition space to tie the kitchen to the adjoining room better.

With a counter overhang, the edge of the backsplash will align with the counter or the uppers but not both. If it serves no function, I prefer without aesthetically.

I'd wait until your counters are installed to make your decision. The glossy white subway is a nice contrast next to the Honed Absolute Black. Also, a good backdrop for colorful things you might be putting on that countertop.
Another consideration is how the seam turns out between the granite & the wall.

Good point about the seam romy. I'm crossing my fingers that the installers do a good job!
