How to make hood line up with channel for duct

Our hood, which was semi-custom, will be wall mounted and will go to the ceiling. it will vent out the rear. the duct will run across the garage ceiling, in the previous channel (as luck would have it) and outside.

the cutout for the hood at the rear, is, say 4" from the kitchen ceiling. The channel for the duct is, say 3" or so lower (due to lower ceiling height in garage).

the walls are 4" thick, I believe.

Builder says the hood won't be able to line up with the channel, and needs to be mounted lower on the kitchen wall to line up, which will look ridiculous.

Any thoughts on how to resolve?

As I understand the problem, the hood is higher than the duct in garage. The difference is about 3''. Without knowing how the garage is framed, the following may or may not work.

Go straight through the wall into the space above the garage ceiling and then transition down to the duct in the garage.

I agree that lowering the hood would look stupid. I also understand why your contractor wants to lower the hood. It is money. He would have get an HVAC guy involved to make the duct offset and maybe some reframing.

Draw a scaled drawing showing the cross section of the garage and kitchen hood. The transition might need to start some distance from the wall. The transition may need some sheetrock to cover it. But that will be in the garage.

He definitely can't go into the space above the garage as there is a room above it. He or the hvac guy needs to figure out some way to angle the duct in the space of the wall. Yes we don't care much what happens in the garage...
