Counter top and backsplash

We are going to use pure white cabinets in the kitchen, a really beautiful dark green marble leathered counter top and white subway tile. Question. Marble place urges a 1 or 2 inch marble back splash to insure the seal on the counter-top but not sure how the white subway tile will look over it. Any suggestions?

Marble place is trying to not have complaints as to how top fits to walls and is disguising it as a "seal" issue. Nonsense.

Make 'em fit the top and tile from it. Silicone between top and tile, not grout.

Thanks for your help. I was concerned if it would not look good to have a 1"strip of marble and then the tile on the walls.
