Satin or Semi-Gloss Polyurethane on Cabinets?

Hi Everyone! Our contractor is getting ready to stain our cabinets and my question is: Do we want a satin or semi-gloss finish? They will be stained dark. Hubby thinks semi-gloss, but I think it will look tacky. Maybe I'm visualizing it wrong. What is your opinion?

and Does anyone have any pictures of their kitchen cabs finished with semi-gloss?

No poly, satin or otherwise. Catalyzed varnish. Satin finish tends to be the most forgiving sheen for bumps and whacks down the road.

I'd go for satin, also. Semigloss is pretty shiny when it's reflecting off all the cabinets in the kitchen, and satin has a richer look to it (and is easier to clean).

I just sanded down, stained and poly'd my butcher block table. I bought Satin and I'm VERY happy with how it came out. It doesn't even look like there is anything on it. Very natural looking.

Yayyyy! I was hoping you'd all say that. I think I will order these coffee mugs that I saw in a catalog. One says "Mr. Right" the other says "Mrs. ALWAYS Right" hehehe I'm kidding. Thank you so much. I am becoming so addicted to this website.

Mine is satin, but I think it has a little more sheen than most. They are custom. I would do satin. Semi is way too glossy.
