We have granite (pics)!

Our granite was installed yesterday (new build, not a reno)! I was at the job site for a while, but left before they finished. For some (as yet) unknown reason, they did not install the backsplash.

It is verde butterfly granite (cabinets are cherry with a honey stain).

They ran into a couple of issues - the sink was cracked and also wouldn't fit in the sink base, even after they "scooped" the edges of the base cabinet (there was an extra sink on site which they were able to use). The granite was templated before the trim was put around the French door in the family room and the installers were not allowed to take the trim off. They ended up calling our KD who arrived to save the day! He figured out how to make the sink fit, and told them to take the trim off the door (our contractor will replace it with 2 pieces). Whew!

My DH spoke with our KD this morning and he said that they only templated for the backsplash yesterday so it will be 2 weeks before they install it! We're supposed to be moving into the house before that, so we aren't real happy with the KD right now.

The granite guys also templated for the bathroom granite yesterday and the plumber can't hook up sinks, etc. until the granite and sinks are installed in the bathroom - again, 2 weeks from yesterday.

Our movers are coming on the 29th, but we need to make a whole bunch of trips to the house before that with the stuff that the movers aren't moving - kitchen stuff, electronics, paint, sprays, plants, wall art, etc. We wanted to start doing that the week before the movers arrive, but it looks like that won't work now. We are closing on this house on the 31st, so the 30th is our absolute drop-dead-be-out-of-the-house date. Yikes!

Oh, and we are driving to Cary, North Carolina on the 25th for a wedding and will lose that whole weekend for moving...

Ah, the best laid plans of mice and men...this build/move might just drive me to drink!

Thanks, guys! I am fortunate to have a large kitchen area. And I love my windows! It's the first house where I don't have very many upper cabinets and it feels so very open!

I moved last August with many such problems and much gnashing of teeth and, you know what? It all worked out and I survived the move with only a few more grey hairs. You're gonna have a lovely kitchen very soon!
