Not going to make it waterproof, more water resistant....we typically finish our wood tops with plain old mineral oil and beeswax.

We make in a batch using 4 cups mineral oil and 5OZ of beeswax, melt the wax into the oil at a low heat, remove from the heat and let cool for a couple minutes and pour into a mason jar...use what is needed and when done put the cover on and store for next time

Will need several coats for sure, we usually keep putting coats on until the wood will not absorb anymore...repeat when the counter feels dry

You can have a waterproof wood countertop.
Honestly, it's a myth that you can't have waterproof wood countertops. think about the outside of a wooden boat.

It can be as waterproof as sealed granite. I had to become a pro really quickly. I'll include a link to the more specific info. When I called and talked to them (it was "CRaft Art wood countertops") the woman explained it to me better than it's written.

She said "the waterlox blend goes into the wood and hardens from the inside out. So the pores are filled. That means nothing can go in. not water, not red wine, not mustard etc. So, it's just like when you seal granite and it's food safe. Needs a reseal every 3-5 years if the water stops beading up just like granite"

She sent me a link that I am going to go find now on where to get the 2 oils.

I got my order of waterlox in about 4 days (not sure where they ship from but it was actually post marked the day I ordered it which was fast I thought). It's not something you can typically get locally for some reason (believe me, I tried). something to do with oil contents rules. I know Craft Art ships their wood from Georgia but I think they can't store the oil there for some reason?

Anyway, take a look because it kills me when people believe the old myth that wood can't be waterproof when I live every day with proof that it can. just gotta do the research on the right products.
