stone yards in Boston/New England area

I am on the hunt for quartzite biana or white princess and will be traveling from Canada's east coast to the Boston area( going through Maine ) Can anyone recommend a good stone yard that is worth the trip? The stone we have right now in Canada is full of rust spots and green inclusions so I am hoping there is some cleaner stone somewhere else.

Just got my Super white (or supreme white I don't remember what they called it) quartzite from Marble and Granite in Westwood MA - http://www.marbleandgranite.com/ They are a distributor. Here are some other places I found it in March of 2010.

Boston Granite exchange in Haverille
MSI International in Braintree MA (when I looked in March they only had very gray slabs.)
Gerrity in Woburn MA (they are a fabricator.) They carried the lighter, more swirly quartzite when I looked.

I found the distributors & fab shops were good with both sending photos and more importantly describing on the phone the slabs they had to help me narrow down what I wanted to look at.

muskokascp - check out the jumab's recent post on my walnut kitchen thread. Apparently Ciot is getting more white quartzite in towards the end of the summer.

Sounds like great leads for the Boston area though! Good luck.

I went to 12 stone yards in the New England area. Finally found Bill from Bella Pietra in Darien. He has a yard but if you don't find something there, he doesn't hestitate to call other places. He found the perfect stone and at the best price.

I suggest checking out Marble and Granite in Westwood (near the T station on 128) 1st. I bought my typhoon Bordeaux from them. In my search I visited over 10 stone yards. (the following is taken from an email to another person looking for TB).

Marble and Granite has the biggest selection in New England but only have a few on display. Their website is wonderful http://www.marbleandgranite.com/slabs/ They have close up pics and far away pics of slabs. It has a nice pricing guide - like - I could never afford a "blue dot" granite. It gives you a feel on what's out there now. Granite yards are in the farther suburbs.

Boston Granite Exchange in Haverhill - they have the most on display (maybe 100 slabs). http://www.bgeusa.com can be pricey

thanks bostonpam for the stone list. I am in the Boston area too, it will be very helpful! I actually visited Marble and Granite in Westwood already just to see Ceasarstone in Misty Carrera. I found out I am not a quartz girl...

I can vouch for the great service @ Gerrity Stone in Woburn. Not "snooty" at all. Ask for Mike S., he's a great guy, formerly a stage actor, pretty far from "snooty"! I had a great experience with them, and when I had a seam that didn't look quite right, they came out and corrected it. Looks perfect now. :)

I bought my stone from MArble and Granite in Westwood. They were not the :"friendliest" per se, but I fell in love with my slab there and didn't much care about their customer service as my fabricator and builder mostly had to deal with them.
There is also a smaller yard in Canton, MA- But they were VERY helpful and friendly and I would have bought from them, but the slabs of the granite I was looking at did not have enough of the movement I was looking for.. I think the name of it is CNL Stone of Boston.. It is not far from Marble & Granite in Westwood, probably about 10 min. away..

Have you had any luck finding quartzite around Boston? I'm also in Boston and wanted to see some but Marble and Granite doesn't have much in stock and both MSI and Boston Granite said they don't carry it ... ?? Garrity doesn't list any as available on their web site. I was hoping to view a bunch like Sparklekitty did. Should I be asking for something else?
