I feel that I now have a large extended family with the gardenweb and have appreciated the support.

my 85 year old DM is having her hip replaced on Friday please send lots of positive thoughts our way. I left DH home alone to tend the ranch while I help mom.

Thanks!

PS iPad cryptic!

I was just thinking of you last night while trying to fit an Advantium in our remodel! So sorry to hear such a major surgery is needed. Your mother is lucky to have you to help her though this. Hoping for a smooth surgery and speedy recovery!

RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Thank you! T-1. We have to leave at 5:45 AM and my DM likes to sleep in. Will need an eject button to get her out of bed!

RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Thank you all- have to try to get DM out of bed at the crack of dawn tomorrow. I do appreciate your support - LOL to Annie!
Williamsen - go for the advantium as a second oven!

Today had to go shop for appropriate rehab clothes as mom was packing her jeans and regular shorts.... So went out and bought lots of stretchy items with elastic waist bands - finishing the washing and drying now, so can put DM to bed for the night - she is a night owl and doesn't like to go to bed til after midnight...

RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

I am a night owl too so I will be thinking about your mom well into the late night hours and while I am baking those yogurt muffins of yours tomorrow. I am taking them to my 91 year old MIL's on Sunday. She still is completely independent and loves to entertain family and friends so we are invited to her place for dinner.
Hope your mom's surgery goes well and recovery is quick.

RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Good luck from the Boston North Shore! My 82 year old dad had hip surgery a year ago and had an amazing recovery. From walking with a cane to (2 days later) no cane, far further on the nightly walk with the dog than he had in a year. So far this year,he's chalked up around 700 miles biking so far...in better shape than a decade. And definitely, cane is GONE:)

RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Loads of positive thoughts and healing energy sent her way. And a virtual hug tossed in as well. Strong-willed and feisty helps when dealing with these sorts of things. Be sure to update us when you get a chance.

RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Warning, healthcare content! You will have so much info to digest at once in the next few weeks it may be overwhelming.

Rehab is key. Make sure she uses her walker or cane even in the home unless instructed otherwise. She may be apprehensive about moving about early on since she may feel unsteady, especially with the pain meds, but moving around based on doctor's advice is very helpful in keeping mobility and recovery. Especially early on, it's easier to keep up with the pain taking the pain meds before it gets bad, should need less meds over time. Once PT is started ask about dosing pain meds around PT, sometimes it's best not to dose until after as for some activities using pain as marker for tolerance of an activity is important to make sure they don't push to far to fast.

Email me if needed, especially about meds. IRL I'm a pharmacist and spent some time providing pharmacy services for a home care agency (mostly geriatric patients).

Speedy recovery to your Mom. So nice you can be with her thru the ordeal. Hang in there.

RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

DM is in surgery now.
Badger- I shouldn't be a night owl since I have to get up between 4:30-5 for work...
Enjoy the muffins! Your mom is amazing. If she still XC skis or bikes like Oldbat or my 93year old friend...

Virtual hugs are very therapeutic. I was amazed when I sent my first phone hug and how much better we both felt. My mom and I always give each other phone hugs as I live 500+ miles away

Williamsen- I have been coaching my mom on the expectations and the importance of walking the correct distances for rehab per- cert..

Will likely contact you on meds. She is normally very With it but anesthesia plus pain meds...... Thanks

Glad I could sneak away from work. Took a new position at same hospital after 32+ years but officially can't take time off during the project but they are being very supportive

Back in touch later today or tomorrow.

Thanks again for your support. We are a small family and most of parents friends have already passed away.

Typos and cryptic as using DM iPad but better than my phone.

Darn completion matching...

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

great news!

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Lots of positive energy coming your and DM's way. Glad to hear she came through surgery okay. Feisty is very good in this case as long as she's using it to fight for her mobility! Will be keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers, and watching for updates.

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

I hope your mom is resting comfortably...you too as it is stressful for us grown kids as well!

Btw... Your muffin recipe is now in my Paprika cookbook, with your name and the pic of your muffins and berries. I convert everything to gluten and SF, and will let you know how the conversion goes. But meanwhile, it is very cheery each time I scroll on by it! Thank you. :-)

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Today was a bit tough as neither of us slept well last night. DM kept falling asleep plus the effect of the morphine made the day quite interesting.
Thanks for your support!

Anna- cant wait for the GF version!

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Hi a2 - checking in to see how your mother is doing? Best, oldbat2be

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Just saw this A2- hope your mom's recovery is going well. Sending you lots of good vibes!

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

All the best to you and your Mom. My boss just had this done and he is a new person! Well, once a grouch, always a grouch, but pain free.

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

OldBat, CK, and catlover - mom ended up in the hospital a few extra days due to SOB (shortness of breath), BP, and wound issues due to fragile skin.
She is now in rehab but misses her apartment and her giant TV (she is legally blind)
She should be there 1-2 weeks before heading back to her apartment or personal care.
Thanks for checking in! What a great family!!!

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Sounds like a couple bumps in the road but nothing unusual.
Wishing her a full recovery and to be back in her home soon.

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Thanks
Looks like next step is skilled nursing.

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

It's good to see that your Mom is recovering! Best wishes to her.

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Sorry to hear she had to stay longer in the hospital. Good that she is in a rehab facility. My mom had knee replacement in April and is doing the other one next week. She didn't want to go to rehab so I spent a week with her in April. My dd is going next week. Mom did well, but I think she would have been better off in a rehab facility for the first few days out of the hospital. Hope your mom progresses quickly.

 o
RE: OT. Send positive energy this way

Feisty DM got tossed out of rehab and moved to skilled nursing.
They said, she doesn't remember her precautions and says I will use any D... walker I want!
They need some psychology lessons - you challenge someone like my DM and she will let you know what she thinks.

In any case, I think the SNF is a better match for her right now and the food will be 10x better.

The chef used to bring oysters on the half shell down to my dad when he was dying last year. It would perk him right up!
