Fabricator says he can't do positive reveal with this sink!

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a sink from Mr. Direct, after reading reviews here.

The model is 509R.

I purchased the integrated cutting board for the smaller tub. I would like to have a positive reveal so the cutting board sits on the rim of the sink, which would take close to a 1/4 inch reveal all around. The fabricator is telling me he cannot do this because there won't be enough of the sink left to adhere to the underside of the counter.

Is this guy blowing smoke?

He is probably telling you the truth, "HE" can not do it. Find a fabricator who can.

A negative reveal is easy to do, that's what he wants, to make a whole smaller than the sink. If he thinks that's rough, I'm asking for a Zero reveal as specified by the manufacturer of my sink, a sink that also has optional accessories that could be affected by how the sink is installed.

But is there any validity to his claim that there is not enough room on the edge of the sink to adhere to the underside of the counter? Or is that BS?

He's yanking your chain, the difference between a negative and positive reveal is about 1/4"-3/8" how much adhesive area is he actually gaining? Especially since part of that difference is the radius on the sink edge where it's not touching the sink anyway!
He just does not want to do the more difficult task (or more likely, doesn't know how) of leaving a good even margin around the sink. Besides, relying on adhesive only, and no mechanical or structural support, is asking for trouble anyway.
Find someone capable...

On the distance chance that he's right, why can't the sink be supported underneath? Think of something running across the cabinet, under the edges of the sink?

I'm just crazy unskilled enough that I'd do that!

The sink should be supported from underneath, not by the counter. Just browse around a bit and you will see plenty of people with falling sinks because they weren't properly supported from underneath.

Ugh, this is turning into a nightmare. I can't even begin to articulate the headache I've endured with this kitchen remodel.

As far as the counters go, I purchased through home depot. The quartz I wanted was discontinued, so I had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get HD to approve a switch to a different stone that they don't normally carry. Now, this fabricator has already ordered the stone. I don't know what i'm on the hook for and what I'm not.

I called up HD tonight and complained that I thought the fabricator was lying to me to cover up his obvious lack of skill. We'll see how far that gets me.

Yes. There is plenty of sink flange to allow a 1/4" positive reveal.

Silicone between the flange and the bottom of the deck serves as a gasket only. The sink must be mechanically fastened, preferably to the cabinets.
