I would really like to see the results of a repair performed in this manner.

I would love to see the results of this as well. Would the epoxy give it any kind of sheen that would be inconsistent with the stone? Would that spot hold up to cleaners and abrasives in the same was as the rest of the stone? I like patina, which is why I like soapstone, so I think I'd just live with an oiled chip, but my husband is worried about chips, which (along with prohibitive cost) is why soapstone is not currently our primary consideration. I wonder if he'd consider it if this type of repair would really be unnoticeable.

I've read about this method of repairing soapstone chips before. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Our fabricators cracked a 15" piece off our bar while transporting the stone and they repaired the crack with epoxy and rock dust. You can't even see or feel anything other than the vein it cracked along. The epoxy just disappeared into the stone when it was sanded.

I don't know what I'm going to do when my new counters chip but I might try this. If I don't like it, I'll just sand it out and live with the chip, I guess. I've got the benefit of a pseudo-Franklin edge so chips are going to fit right in to the wonky, wavy profile. The joy of soapstone!
