Uh-oh? Backsplash/Cabinet Painting Timing Issue

Posted by TheRedHouse (My Page) on

We are scheduled to have a tile backsplash put in starting Monday. The following Monday, the cabinet painters are scheduled to start and the tile guy moves on to some work in my bathrooms.
The tile guy just sent an email saying his sister died and they are a week behind, so he'll need to start the same day the painters are scheduled. Obviously, they all can't be in the kitchen at the same time. We just assumed it would be best to have the backsplash done before the painting, but I'm now wondering if that's necessary. Can I have the cabinets painted while the tile guy works on the bathrooms upstairs and have him do the backsplash after the painters have cleared out?

Thanks for your opinions on this one!

I'd sure have my backsplash done after the painters.
That seems only logical to me.

Thanks, CEFreeman. I think you're right. I don't know why I thought we'd do the painting last, but it makes sense to do the backsplash last.

Ditto. No use risking getting paint on your new tile.
