Love the backsplash...and really, just the whole vibe of that lovely kitchen! I could happily cook there...*sigh*...no clue who's it is, though; this is my first time seeing it.

I don't remember seeing that kitchen before, and I've been around a long time. But I could have missed it somehow. We had the same situation in a previous kitchen. It was the result of combining the two spaces that housed the kitchen and the breakfast nook/butler's pantry in a ca. 1926 home. The lower window was originally in the breakfast nook and wound up being at counter height. Is that what you're working with?

I do remember that kitchen, it was one of my favorites that was finished when mine was in progress last year. They did a wonderful job.

I agree that they certainly did a wonderful job. I saved the photo at the time, because I loved the whole ambiance of the room, and had forgotten to bookmark the thread.

Hi jakabedy, we're not dealing with that sort of situation in my case (designing around a lower window). I just like the look of counter-height window, and because I'm gutting the kitchen and replacing the windows, and my kitchen will have the range in the same position as the one in the photo, I thought it would be a great illustration to show my GC what's in my mind's eye. :-)

We had that combo in our old kitchen and it matches other windows on facade of house. We kept the shorter/taller combo when switching to casements for the sake of the facade. But..although the combo makes a distinctive look from the street, I wouldn't necessarily pursue it if I didn't have to.

We ended up putting in a symmetrical new pattern...long ones over sink, shorter ones either side. Ignore the chicken.
