I've reversed doors on older refrigerators and it was a PITA, but removing and replacing new doors shouldn't be that big a deal.

Some new refrigerators are a 36'' cube. Even with the doors off, you'll have a hard time maneuvering that through a 34'' aisle. You need a counter depth model. If this is for resale, no amoung of new appliances will make up for the inspector's report about the too narrow aisle.

I have an LG bottom freezer with the drawer freezer in my utility room It is 33" wide and had to go through a 32" door opening. We took the door off and I just measured 29" from the back wall to the door opening. It is not a counter depth -- just not a monster. Door seal might make it a little more than that, but you should be fine as long as you are careful in your choices.

I really like the fridge, so I have no hesitation recommending one like it. Samsung and Whirlpool also had some trim designs -- their had no handles to stick out so we were considering them for that reason (opens against a wall and cannot be reversed).

We have a 36 inch LG French door fridge with 2 bottom freezers drawers. We removed both drawers and both doors. It has water and ice in the door so we had to disconnect that as well, but no biggy. We then managed to fit it thru a 30 inch wide space but only just barely. No scrapes or scratches, but lots of patience required.

As GreenDesigns said, you need a counter-depth fridge in order to maximize that aisle. Even if you get it in there, including doors and handles a standard full-depth fridge is going to jut out past the counters and into the aisle about 10.5 - reducing your aisle to 23.5" - less than half of the recommended 48" aisle for a two-cook kitchen, and almost 20" less than the 42" aisle for a one-cook kitchen. Even without the fridge, the aisle is way narrow. Definitely do your best to maximize the aisle and get a counter-depth fridge.
