Range hood knockouts

I'm looking at buying a used range hood. Trouble is, the last owner had a rear-duct installation and I have a top-duct installation. So the rear 3 1/4" x 10" knockout is punched out. Would it be a big deal to merely cover this with something or will it screw up the air flow in some way that I'm not thinking of?

I don't think it should be a problem as the wall is going to cover the knockout?

I would post a shout out thread to KAS in the Appliance Forum. He is the ventilation expert on the AF.
