| Can I see pics of people's 6' islands with pendant options? I'm about to wire for them, and can't decide whether to do two big ones, or 3 little ones.
Thanks! |

| We are still in the process, but we will have one recessed can light flanked by two pendants over the 6' island, as per the recommendation of the lighting store. |

| Thanks, that photo really helps. I think we'll definitely stick with 2. :) Pretty kitchen! |

| I don't have a picture, but our two pendants over a 5' maple island seem a little inadequate. It depends on the pendants, of course. Mine are Porter Pendants from PB, the smaller sized ones. They take a 60 watt bulb each. The kitchen is all white, so it reflects light well, and there are plenty of high wattage recessed halogens in the rest of the ceiling, though spaced over 4' away, so not directly lighting the island. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so that may be part of it. But the areas under the recessed halogens are much brighter, and I gravitate to working under those instead. There are a bunch of factors involved in good lighting, including angle of spread, number of fixtures, distance from surface to be lit, color of surface, brightness of bulbs, etc. If unsure, I'd go with more rather than less. I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about too much light! |

| Hm. I'd hate to not have enough light. I guess I'm going to need to pick out pendants soon, before I rough in the electrical. |

| I think it depends on the size of the pendants. If you are doing 6" pendants, you would definitely need 3. For my six foot island, I put two 18" pendants and I have a hefty beam that runs down the center. You can also do a single fixture centered on the island with multiple lights. |

| We are gutting the ceiling. The whole house, really. It's only going to happen once. :) My vision for this kitchen keeps going back to these farmhouse style pendant lights, only painted kelly green:
They hold 150 watt bulbs, and they're 15" wide, so I think 2 is the way to go. Other fixtures have their allure, but I have this image in my head that's so clear I was sure it was an inspiration photo, except I can't find it on my computer, so I guess I just made it up. :) |

| I think it depends on the size for sure. Ours are 10" and our island is 5'. If you are using ones as large as the ones in your picture, I would think 2 definitely. |
