Towel bar on front of sink - talk me into it (or out of it)...

I have seen some high-end apron front sinks (usually stainless or copper) with towel bars built in to the apron of the sink. I have the typical wood panel that looks like a fake drawer at the front of my sink on an island, and was thinking of installing a towel bar on this panel so there would be a place to hang it. This side of the island faces away from the most public area of the kitchen.

I would choose something pretty - was even thinking that an extra long cabinet pull might work here since I only really need about 1/2" or so to slip a tea towel over the bar. Another alternative would be a regular bathroom towel bar but it might stick out too far (?).

Is this a good idea or a bad idea? My cabinets are painted wood. I guess one drawback might be if the towel was wet, it would be sitting up against the wood and might damage it. Not sure that this is much different from hanging the towel over the side of the sink, as we currently do most of the time?

Would appreciate any thoughts/comments before I get attached to the idea...

Thanks.
