Can't post pictures!

Posted by nsddds (My Page) on

I have been surfing garden web for some time. I would love to join in more actively by posting pictures and getting feedback for my kitchen remodel that is currently underway, but I can't seem to post pictures. I have read the directions started a photo-bucket account but still having difficulties. I have a Mac if this could be the issue. Could someone give me fool proof directions?

I have a mac but I use shutterfly.

Anyway, once you post a picture onto photo bucket, I believe all you need to do is control click on the pic and you'll get a pop up menu with the option to "copy image address"

then all you need to do is create a phrase:

img src="x"

where you paste the address you just copied between the quotations where the x is.

start the phrase with a left pointy bracket and end the phrase with a right pointy bracket...no spaces...and it should post the pic.

You should be able to do this with most images off the internet..it need not be a pic you uploaded.

If the pic is too wide, then make the phrase

img src="x" width="500"

and it will keep it from getting too wide.

I don't have a Mac, but I just got the hang of posting pics with Photobucket, which (IMO) is easier than Shutterfly.

HEre is what I suggest.

Open 2 windows, one on Garden Web and one on your Photobucket account. In your PB account, click on the picture you want to post. A small box will open with links. Click on the one that says 'HTML Code.' It will chane colors and say 'copied'

Now go to the GW site and in the box where you type your post, you should see your cursor. Now hit the CNTL button and then the "V" key. A long web address will appear, that is your picture.

Now go to "preview message" and you picture should appear.

I hope this works for you!

On the mac, it would be command v, not control....

I tried pasting the html code, but it doesn't work for me...I need to use the img src to get it to work. It may be a mac thing...

The web is platform-agnostic that way. It's not a mac thing.

You can upload a single photo that is on your computer to a post now. Just click the Choose file button above the message composition area.

As a Mac person (I've never used a pc) I can second writersblock. The new image set-up works just fine. Next to the "Image file to upload (optional):" click the "Choose File" button, choose your file, then Preview your post. I don't know how people post multiple images, but it works for one.

The other method that doesn't use a photo service is to post an image in the gallery part of the site, copy the URL, and paste it into the Optional Link URL space, name the link, then Preview the message. It doesn't place the image in your post, just a link, so it's more more work and less reward.

Can't wait to see your images! E

If you use what I use it is super easy. Go to imgur.com and just drag and drop the photos into the browser and you'll see the window dim and say "upload". You can upload as many photos as you want. Once they are done you'll be taken to a page showing all of them. Click on each one and on the right side of the photo there is a "attach this image" and the one that says "websites and blogs" is the one you want to use. It starts with like or something similar.

This is a super easy photo sharing site. I use it all the time. You can also create an account to store all your photos.

When you copy from photobucket there is an html option among the 4 different copy options, and that has always worked for me. When you copy from Houzz.com, right-clicking gets you html code that you can post directly.

If you want to post a picture that is hosted on someone else's site, like something you found while searching the web, you use the img src="x" approach, x being the location of the image. There's a primer on this at the link below. Right clicking on most pics you will find on the Web (not all) gives you a pop-up box that includes the address where the image is located (like http://blahblahblah.jpg).

Here is a link that might be useful: Primer on posting images using html

I have always posted from photobucket to GW exactly as bowyer123 has described. Within the past month I can no longer do this. Something has changed and I'm super frustrated by it. I also am working on a mac.

For PC users, please know that recommending "right clicking" anything doesn't work for Mac users as we only have one button to click.

RE: Can't post pictures!

The only way I can figure out to post a pic from houzz.com is to click the embed link, then search the box for the "img src=" phrase and then cut and paste into this message box, again using the pointy brackets. That works.

And if you want to post multiple pictures, just use multiple "img src=" phrases, each in their own set of pointy brackets and that will work.

Macs have had right click for at least ten years. You just have to enable it in system prefs (unless you're still using an ADB mouse and system 7.5 or something). In any case, even if you don't care to turn on right-click, Control+clicking does the same thing with a one-button setup.

Another way is to click the photo to get into single image view then right-click/control click the photo and you will see the code for embedding. Just copy/paste it here.
