Faucets- How Big Can They Go?

Never really thought too much about the way faucets were changing in size and style until I started buying them for our new house. I bought 5 non-bathroom faucets which included a magnetic pulldown for the laundry, main sink with sprayer, 2 bar sinks and a pot filler.
I rejoiced a few years ago at the slender goosenecks that where popular then. How practical they were for getting a pot filled in the sink! But the original pull down faucet I'd intended for the main sink looked like a flag pole in its hole on the peninsula... so I put a nice bridge faucet there which was about half as tall with plenty of clearance still. Ironically, the bridge faucet was on closeout sale-
So what is driving the large tall faucets... are they a centerpiece on the flat islands that comprise the separation between kitchen and great room nowadays? Or is it just a matter of functionality?

When I am in my living area I do not want to look toward my kitchen and see this monstrous faucet sticking up in the air. My neighbors sink is in front of a south window, street side. I can see her faucet when I walk down the street or up her sidewalk.

EmmaR- I stay at a friend's house during the weekdays that is fairly classic and well-oufitted by any measure. Her faucets are mostly low profile with the exception of one modest gooseneck in the kitchen. The house was built in the 90s and the kitchen looks, as they say here on GW, timeless. Really looks like it was done last month, with white cabinetry and luscious light chocolate granite. Scalewise, one of the larger faucets I see now, especially in newer homes would be completely out of place... so I wonder if these large faucets are bought more for newer homes than for retrofitting.
