I did exactly that using FXSheeting from Alsa Corp. It's fantastic stuff! Cost about $40 for the piece I needed to cover the dishwasher and installation was no more difficult than regular contact paper. A little care and you'll have great results.

Mine isn't stuck on. The black outside of the dishwasher was a sheet of material. My GC had a local metal fab place cut stainless steel panels the right size for our existing DW and trash compactor. Then he slipped out the black panels and put in the stainless steel ones.

Wowie, Cloud! That's amazing! They look like brand new appliances! With the problems I've had with my new $1300 GE Profile dishwasher, I wished I would have read this thread before purchasing. I had a cheapo beapo dishwasher that came with the house, but it worked like a charm! This could've saved me $1300 and lots of headaches!

For my kitchen redo I got a new fridge, MW and range. All of them being SS with some black accent. The DW and compactor were fairly new and I couldn't justify purchasing new ones. But I wanted matching appliances so I took a different approach:

I covered my black DW with the SS skins from Frigo Design and love it! They sent me 2 panels custom made for my model DW and it looks brand new. Service was great and shipping was very quick.

For my white compactor I ordered several replacement parts (black and SS) to convert the look from white to SS. I also used SS colored paint on the frame. Again it turned out great, SIL can't believe it is the same unit. I ordered the replacement parts from PCappliancerepair.com and was also happy with them.

Now everything is SS and it all looks coordinated! I saved a lot of $$ and our budget is happy for that! Good luck!

Just so you know, you can replace the whole Bosch door with a stainless steel one: our GC's idea. He checked and it was around $200. We didn't bother, but it might be useful to know. He called Bosch.
