Figuring Out Amount of Light Needed

I have a small U shaped kitchen. It's approximately 8'x10'. One wall will be fridge, pull out pantry/spice rack, oven and then a corner sink. Short wall has a window (and the dishwasher) but I have a carport and covered porch so not too strong of light coming in. Opposite the long wall is a peninsula.

Current lighting are 4 fluorescent tubes under frosted plastic panels (whatever that is called). Would a chandelier (only one shade) and two or three pendants over the peninsula be too much? There's a column I guess you could call it at the corner end if the peninsula so on the seating side it's 8'.
