Kitchen Update w/ Pics ~ New Ideas Welcome :-)

Here is an update on our kitchen! It has taken us a long time to make it this far (we are building the rest of the house ourselves too, so the kitchen is just one part).

Stuff that's mostly done (basic, will post more details in final reveal post):
~Cabinets- We made the cabinet boxes from prefinished plywood and a CNC machine. We had a wonderful Amish cabinetmaker make the hickory face frames, doors, drawer fronts, and maple drawer boxes.
~Hinges/Slides- Blum undermount soft close
~Appliances- Capital natural gas range, samsung fridge, ge advantium microwave, bosch dishwasher, viking hood insert (will be covered w/ a wood hood which we are making)
~Floor- Tarkett Fiberfloor in a color which is now discontinued.

To be decided (suggestions welcome!!!!) :-)
~Countertop - Either Wilsonart laminate in a white color (Carrara Santorini) of Granite? We have not made it to the granite place yet to get prices.
~Sinks- depends on the countertop we choose, I really would like the silgranit in metallic gray
~Hardware- leaning toward Emtek pulls in a silver color
~Backsplash- ? not sure, although we saw some nice rectangular ming green marble tiles at the tile store. I want to keep the counters and backsplash simple because there is already a lot going on w/ the knotty hickory.
~Valence/No Valence - We already made a rectangular piece of hickory for the valence, I was thinking of attaching it to the wall instead of flush w/ the upper cabinets. That way it might connect the uppers without sticking out so far...(need to put it into sketchup to see)

Beautiful! What an amazing project! Do you have a CNC, or did you find CNC services? It would be fascinating to learn about how you setup to have this job cut. Hope you'll keep posting pictures as you complete the counters and other little details.

Wow, what a project! I love the tile flooring you chose to go with your cabinets. I think the ming green tile would be a gorgeous compliment to your cabinet colors. I looked at Ming tile when I first started looking - wouldn't have worked with what we ended up choosing for cabinet island (blue), but the Ming is still one of my favorites.
I would skip the valance. You don't need it, and I think it would really date what is a brand new kitchen. People are renovating and taking valances out everywhere.

Sorry I don't have much to offer except to say, your kitchen is coming along beautifully. Love the cabs and your 48". Oh no, valances outdated? never had one but will have one in new kitchen! Oh well, too late for me.

1. Your cabinets are drop dead gorgeous...GORGEOUS!
2. Skip the valance.
3. Love the flooring!
4. I think ming green tile would look awesome with your cabinets...especially if you go with a simple, no wild color variations countertop material.

You are going to have one beautiful kitchen when you are done.

Wow, gorgeous cabinets! Your floor is very pretty with the cabinets, too!

Are you set on light counters? Because Uba Tuba is very reasonably priced granite and would go terrific with this refined rustic environment. It has just enough visual texture for the refined rustic, and has golden and taupe undertones which would go great with your cabinets and floor.

I hope you post more updates because this is a great project and unique!

Thanks everyone! I am very excited with how it's turning out :-)

athomesewing- We bought a very old CNC on craigslist, and DH rebuilt parts and bought new software to get it up and running. It was one of those things that we were very lucky to have found. Here's a pic and I could post a more detailed post about it for those interested. It fits 4x8 sheets of plywood.

Thank you for the suggestion of uba tuba, it looks beautiful! I'll put it on my list of things to look for when we go to the granite place. :-)

How do you like your tarkett fiberfloor? Has it held up? Did it smell on installation? Did you do the glue down or floating installation?
