Teflon tubes on Waterstone filtration faucets

When we unboxed our kitchen fixtures yesterday we were surprised (and disappointed) to find that the beautiful Waterstone hot and cold water filtration system has teflon tubes instead of braided metal. Evidently, the company recently switched over to teflon because the metal caused the hot water faucet handle to get too hot, and also was responsible for more clogs.

However, my partner is not at all happy with the prospect of drinking water, especially hot water, that has passed through teflon rather than copper. He is concerned about cancer-causing side effects of damaged teflon, and in general, drinking hot water that has passed through plastic.

Does anyone else share his concern that this teflon hose is potentially hazardous for your health? Or is he being overly worried and cautious?
