OMG... I've seen alot of transformations but I think this takes the cake! You have amazing vision to turn that original kitchen into something that looks straight out of a magazine. There is such attention to detail! You must be so proud of what you've done. I hope you enjoy it for many years!

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Beautiful kitchen! do you mind telling me where you got your stools?

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Oh those stools! they were the 'star' the last time i posted. believe it or not, this was the easiest part of this kitchen. I ordered them unfinished online. I stained them first a really dark walnut. i then painted them in the same green as my island. right before the paint dried, i took an old sanding sponge and sanded through some of the areas to show the stain underneath.

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

So not my style, but I do LOVE your kitchen. Just beautiful. Looks like puppy likes it too! :) Congratulations!

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Very dramatic! It's beautiful. I love the idea of the baking ingredients in the drawer, I might have to steal that one.

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Details, please! It's beautiful, and I do like your green island. Is that a green stain, or green paint?

Beautiful dog, too :-).

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Holy transformation, Batman!! were the backs of the old cabs covered in wallpaper!! hee hee!

Well done, lots of very nice details. It looks like a great kitchen to work in. You also have lots of space for all your collectables. I love the green island! Enjoy

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

mairin-you had to bring up that wallpaper huh? it was bad wasn't it? actually, it always looked worse in photos for some reason than it did in person. can i tell you N-E-V-E-R again? I mean even if wall paper ever make a comeback, its too hard to remove. i had three layers, YIKES! i would take the sanding mess of the wood floors and the sheetrock put together again before i would ever want to remove three layers of wallpaper again. just getting rid of that mess made a huge transformation in my kitchen even if i would not have been able to do anything else.

yandi-the link to my post in the gallery section is here titled Finished!! it lists the details there.

Here is a link that might be useful: Finished!!

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

The backsplash you picked (I remember that thread well) finished your beautiful kitchen perfectly. Great job with an amazing transformation.

 o
xpost in the finished kitchen

Oh Teppy!!! WOW!!! It was a beautiful kitchen before the tile but now it is a masterpiece! I'm so happy for you! Now you can relax, sit and enjoy your kitchen. I'm so excited seeing your gorgeous sonoma tiles!! I had ordered mine about 3 weeks ago and still waiting...I hope my blend looks as good as yours..yours is really to die for! My blend is very similar to yours but I added a % of a red stone blend to tie some of the terracota color in my granite. Oh gosh! believe me or not I also thought about adding the same border tile next to the countertop like yours but I chicken out..and I regret it now..it looks beautiful!!! Oh well, maybe I still have the chance convince my DH to add it...LOL
Your green island looks wonderful and it is an inspiration to me. My current island matches the perimeter cabinets and I'm considering painting it to add a focal point. I need to decide between off-white or a greyish green.
One question, what liner did you use for your custom build hood? Are you happy with it? Is it quiet?
Again, CONGRATS and enjoy your wonderful transformation!!!

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

hogar-you are going to love your sonoma tiles. it will be worth the wait. mine took about 5 weeks. i'll bet that bit of red will look great mixed in. which red did you do? i will be anxious to see yours now.

story for you:

the border tile was added in at the last minute. after i got my tiles in, i absolutely almost cried. i hated the creamy yellow look of the subway honed marble against the grayish whiter granite. it cost me $600 more, but i called my tile store and she got me those 'exeter' tiles in 2 days. sonoma keeps about 75 pieces of each tile in stock at all times. i loved the way the exeter in birch looked against my granite and thought all was well and the $600 extra seemed worth it. OMG! when the guys installed the tile and i saw how the grayish birch exeter tiles looked against the cashmere subways, i was back to square one, only now it was more obvious the difference because now the color difference was standing up instead of laying flat. I had to have a transition of gray to cream somewhere, and it definitely looked better laying flat from granite to tile instead of tile to tile. now i was really ready to cry. i had just spent $600 for nothing. it was a waste. so, what does stephanie do? I immediately went out to my garage after the tile guys left and started mixing paint. it did not take me long to get a creamy color mixed. i dry brushed the bottom 'exeter' tiles to match the subways. i liked it right away. it did not take 5 minutes to know it was better. i will just have to get over the grayer granite and the creamier/yellowish backsplash. hey, what the heck, the cabinets are white, real white, which is a better match for the cooler toned granite. so i have cool(granite) > warm(tile) > cool(cabinets). I guess i made a bad choice on my tiles after all. it was a 50/50 odds there. i missed. i should have gone with the darker gray tiles. in the end i convinced myself, against my better judgement that the lighter colored subways were the way to go. the gray ones were pretty dark, but would have been better. In the end, i do love the color of the cashmere honed granite no matter what. if the girl at my tile store knew that i had painted(or dry brushed) those expensive sonoma tiles not an hour after they were installed, she would have a fit! i think its kind of funny. they are pretty though.

RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Sorry Teppy that I didn't respond sooner...I did not have internet connection for a couple of days. Something to do with IP address...
Here is the link to the venetian blend with the red sea stone. They aren't a true red color but I blend of different shades of red. This blend has the flax stone, the red sea stone and I had added to this blend the hem color tantrum tile and the antique bronze. I told them to delete the adobe color glass tile (change it with the hem) and the grand mamier tile (change it with the bronze). Will see...hope I like it!
It is funny what you did to the exeter tiles!!! This is something that I would have done myself as well...I'm glad that at the end you achieved the look you were looking for. Thanks for the tip about dry brushing some paint on the tiles...I'll keep that in mind if I get surprised once my tile arrives..Also, if you don't mind sharing what you got as the liner for your wood hood...do you like it? Is it quiet?

RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

hogar,
being without internet really sucks. Happens here all the time. i went to sonomas website and did your blend. i like the red sea in there. I kind of wish i had done some of the bronze in mine too to blend with the dark areas of my perimeter granite. they do have some nice stuff at sonoma and it can be hard to choose. now, which field tiles are you doing?

I hate my hood vent. the cabinet man was supposed to get me something great, and he did not. well, it sucks like he said it would, but the lights are so dim i can hardly see to oook. and it is so loud! i hate to turn it on high for very long, but when i do need to, it gets the smoke and odors out completely. If your still interested, its a broan. i don't think it is more than a few hundred bucks. i will change it out when i can. until then, i still need to find a way to trim the metal part of the liner that shows where my arch in the wood is cut out. keep us posted on your progress.

Teppy, what an amazing transformation! And isn't it a great feeling to be *DONE*?

Enjoy your new kitchen,

RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Teppy, your energy in working so tirelessly to achieve a beautiful, cohesive look is impressive! It all came out so well-- I really admire your ability to create lovely finishes with paint. It looks like it goes with the rest of your elegant home, as well. After all this bustle I hope you are out enjoying a tall, cold drink by your pool :).

WOW Beautiful, you must be very happy with how it turned out. Love your puppy too, He looks comfy :)

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

morton-thanks. and i have been enjoying my pool. we worked on this kitchen all winter and then some. when it started warming up outside, i could not wait to get out into my yard and pool area. this kitchen is going to work so well for large crowds with the new island in and the peninsula out this summer. now, i need to start working on the outdoor kitchen/poolhouse.

mikeandbarb-there have been a few comments about our" Husky Puppy". I just have to say how much we absolutely love him! He has been such a joy to have since we got him 7 years ago. they are just the best breed. It seems the more we spoil him, the sweeter he gets.

RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Hi again - can I ask what brand cannisters you have for your flour, sugar, etc. and what size they are? It looks like that big ones holds at least 10# of flour? I just love that idea - I haven't had baking stuff in cannisters on the counter for ages, but it does get to be a drag to haul out the bags every time I use them, and in the new kitchen the pantry will be even father away from the working area.

TIA,

Lynne

I'm drooling yet again! I absolutely love it!

RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Lynne-those are tupperware containers that i bought years ago. they all are 4.5" deep. they were a perfect depth to fit into my drawer. the flour and sugar containers are 10"x6.5", rice is 6.5"x6.5", and the small oval one i have cornstarch in. it is 3"x6". it is very convenient. i had seen some pull out bins when i was designing and really wanted those. it just did not work out to do that, but this drawer with the tupperware did the trick for me. it might be better actually because its more versatile.

 o
RE: i cannot believe it! i'm done! woo hoo

Thanks Stephanie. I am guessing that they do not hold 10# of flour - maybe 5#? That might be ok - I rather have to fill the container 2x a month vs. drag out the bag each week.

I'll have to try to hold myself back from buying something before my cabinets are actually installed and I have most everything in them. I am contemplating giving up space in the upper pull out of what would have been my pots, pans, and lids cabinet so that I could do this. I figure I can move some of that to LS next to it if I have to.

Lynne
