I've got beadboard ceiling in my front hall entry - it is painted. The ceilings are 8' and makes the space feel like a cottage - old fashion. I think it could work in your space but it should relate to the other rooms in your house.

I don't think beadboard will ever be out of style...but does a vintage/cottage style fit your space? I like the tin ceiling tiles too (you can paint them) but I know you're trying to reduce noise. Would beadboard reduce noise, at all?

I think that beadboard may be too narrow to be compatible with the description of the rest of the house. Maybe a wider tongue and groove wood ceiling would be more appropriate.

At good lumber yards there may be more variety in sizing available. We were able to get this beadboard in slightly knotty pine to match existing pine beadboard and pine shiplap wainscoting in our old cape.

I love the warmth of beadboard. I think it is quieter than drywall. If you go with painted beadboard, my suggestion is to paint the tongue edge of every board before installing, and allow it to dry thoroughly. It will minimize any humidity-related shrinking/expansion of the beadboard to show as a crack.
