Granite is in - yay!!

Well, here it is, pics of the granite - especially for Kat and Katienic :) The pics aren't wonderful, and the kitchen is far from finished, but at least it's a lot closer than it was! The granite on the perimeter is Cambrian Black antique and the island is Persian Pearl antique. Unfortunately, photos don't do the Cambrian black justice, so you can't really tell much about it. I really like both, but especially the Persian Pearl.

The black looks nice but OH... that Persian Pearl! And your kitchen... I can't believe how gorgeous it is unfinished! The ceiling, as said before, is spectacular. Had to scroll back up and sneak a peek at that island top again... YUM!

Oh wow! That is some GORGEOUS granite! I can already tell your kitchen is going to be absolutely stunning! I cannot wait to see more!

Really nice! Love the contrast between the cabs, island, counters, floor(are they staying light or being made darker?) and wall color. The Persian Pearl is wonderful! How exciting for you to be nearing the end, and I hope you're cooking there soon!Congrats!

Hi.

Love it! Your kitchen is going to be amazing! That ceiling...aaaaah, why didn't we do one????

We're doing a dark stained island also. Which wood species is your island & what stain did you use? Also, what is that wall color? Sorry for all the questions. Beautiful! Can't wait to see more!

Katie

Gorgeous! I can't wait to see more. I echo all the previous compliments!!

Remodelfla - thanks! I love the Persian Pearl even more than I thought I would. We were lucky though in that we were about to go with a slab that I wasn't crazy about and the supplier happened to say that they were holding several others for some designer. They had been holding them for several months so we asked if they would call the person to see if they didn't want them after all - lucky for us, they didn't, so we got a much nicer looking slab :)

Erika - thanks, but I have to say that even though I'm very happy with the granite, I'd trade it for your beautiful marble slab anytime - haha! Hope you are enjoying your kitchen!

Twogirlsbigtouble - thanks! The wall color is one of the things I'm happiest with so far (it's from SW and is called Passive). That was after going through MANY sample pots and thinking I'd never find anything I'd like. There's only one coat on currently so hopefully it will look even better at the end once the second is on.

Furletcity - thanks! It's so funny how the floors actually look like they could possibly already be finished. They look horrible in person and even more so after the granite installers got something on them, so now there are a few purple/black spots. Luckily, they haven't been sanded yet, and will eventually be stained a very dark ebony, so hopefully that will give more contrast with the white cabinets and make things pop a bit more - right now I feel like it's kind of "blah" :)

Oh, didn't include this before, but eventually, the island will have a glass shelf on it much like this photo (not the same shape, but same type and color of glass):

OOH LA LA! I'm so happy for you Traci, and it looks gorgeous!!! That Persian Pearl is the perfect compliment to the Cambrian Black. I've seen Cambrian in person but never the Persian Pearl, what a show stopping combination! I also love how the paint brings it all together and highlights the colors of the island granite!

I do also covet that ceiling...maybe in my next house *sigh*!

Congratulations and I'm so glad things went smoothly for you with everything else you've been going through. If I'm ever down your way I'm inviting myself over for a glass of wine and a full house tour! hehe!

Kat :)

Thanks, Kat! Come on by for a glass of wine anytime :) Maybe I'll make my way to your neck of the woods to see your beautiful scenery sometime also!

RE: Granite is in - yay!!!!

Katie - thanks! I somehow missed your message when I posted last - hate it when I do that! No problem with the questions since I'm constantly asking others questions as well - that's the great thing about this forum! Anyway, the island is cherry wood, and I hate to say it, but I don't even know what the stain is! That's because I told the cabinet maker that I wanted a dark stain and he just gave us some samples - the one I liked happened to be a custom mix that he had done and I didn't even ask what the mix was! I'd be happy to ask him though if you'd like! The wall color is SW Passive and is listed as a "cool neutral" - appears gray with blue and almost violet undertones depending on the light.

Michellemarie - thanks! I hope I have more pics of the truly finished product before I am old and gray - haha! Well, I think it may be too late for the gray since I probably have at least 50% more than when this remodel started :) I'll hit the big 4-0 this month, so am hoping for a BIG birthday present - a finished kitchen! Or at least very close to finished!

RE: Granite is in - yay!!

stunning. don't you want to lie naked on the stone? Ooops, maybe that's just me. I DIDN'T DO IT, FOLKS. FOOD IS EATEN OFF THE COUNTER!!! it was just a passing thought when it was installed. LOL

 o
RE: Granite is in - yay!!

Buddyrose - that is hysterical about lying naked on the stone!!!! I hadn't thought of that, but I did just say in an email that maybe I'd sleep on it one night (I sleep with some sort of clothing on though - haha!). I just find myself staring at it - now if only I can actually USE it sometime in this century :)

Your granites are gorgeous and your kitchen is going to be beautiful!

 o
RE: Granite is in - yay!!

Thanks for the recent photos, I just love watching your kitchen progress (even though I know it's agony for you to be going through it) The granite is a big step, isn't it?? Once mine went in I hated my unfinished kitchen a whole lot less :)Even though you are not finished, you are fortunate to have found the right wall color to love. I need to post a cry for help on here soon....... the paint color is driving me nuts!

Can't wait for more progress and more pictures! Did you ever find the right color to get your floors as dark as you wanted them?

 o
RE: Granite is in - yay!!

Just beautiful! If my house wasn't a Spanish colonial, I'd want your kitchen style (what do you call it?)!

Do you have any close-up pics of your ceiling and the molding is applied? Thanks.

 o
RE: Granite is in - yay!!

Lyno - thanks! I hope it turns out half as beautiful as the hundreds of kitchens I've seen on this forum!

Katiee511 - it's true that the granite makes it begin to feel more like a real kitchen. Yes - we did find something that we think will work for the floors - thanks for remembering that! We found that Sherwin Williams (their commercial division) will mix up custom stains, so we got a sample of a very dark ebony that we're going to try. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will look like I want it to when finally done!

Houseful - thanks! I honestly don't know what I'd call this kitchen style! I guess you could say eclectic since I seem to have a hard time sticking to just one type of design! I originally wanted a very modern look, but then thought that it might not really be a good thing to go that far since it would look a bit out of place with the rest of the house (it was built in the late 30's). However, I love modern design, so wanted to at least try and achieve a balance between modern and not looking ridiculous with the rest of the house! Not sure if I'll succeed or not - we'll see once it's totoally finished :) I'm just kind of muddling through it on my own and not using a designer, so who knows what it will eventually look like!
I'll see if we have any close-up pics of the ceiling - if not, I can definitely take some to show you!

 o
Oops - wrong paint name!!!

You guys are going to think I'm crazy (and I am a little from dealing with all this remodeling!) - or maybe you'll actually understand how this could happen! :) Several of you have asked about the paint color and I listed SW Passive, but that's not the right color!!! It's close though, if that makes sense - haha. We actually found 2 different grays that are very similar - one being maybe a shade darker than the other, so I decided to put the lighter in the dining room (connects to the kitchen now) due to having less light in there. The darker is in the kitchen. So...the paint in the kitchen is actually called Argos (also from SW) and Passive is actually in the dining room. I'm not sure you'd be able to tell the difference in a photo though since it's difficult in person! Right now, the Passive is on the dining room wall above a chair rail and the Argos is below, as well as in the kitchen, so I think we'll leave it like that. I can't believe I didn't remember that - it actually hit me in the middle of the night that I was thinking of the wrong color in the kitchen. How bad is that??!!

Anyway, I'll post this briefly on a new thread since I know it's difficult to keep up here and the people who asked may not even see it. I'd hate for someone to struggle with paint colors as much as I have and then I've made it worse by telling them the wrong one in a photo!! :) Here's a photo showing the 2 together - if you can even tell the difference.
SW Argos is below chair rail at left of photo and in kitchen to right, while Passive is above chair rail - they look almost the same!

Tracy29,

Wow your kitchen is so elegant. I love it.
Your stone choices are amazing. You must be so
excited.

Are you keeping the floors as is, or staining a
different color? I am in the process of changing
my floor and need some good ideas.

Enjoy your stones they look lovely.

Close-up of ceiling for houseful

houseful - here are a few pics of the ceiling. Hope it's helpful.

RE: Granite is in - yay!!!!

boxerpups - thanks! The floors are going to be stained a very dark ebony. The floor company who installed the new floor (and will be refinishing all the existing hardwood) couldn't show us a sample stain that was dark enough, so we're having one mixed by Sherwin Williams. Now I just hope it doesn't turn out too dark! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the floors can be done in the next two weeks. The only reason for the wait is that the kitchen is part of a larger remodel and work is being done on other areas. We also still have to tear out the old kitchen (kept it so we wouldn't be without a kitchen forever) so the floors in there can be refinished at the same time. To make matters worse, we've had tons of rain lately, so need to somehow time things so that French doors and 2 windows can be installed where the old kitchen is, preferably while we're having good weather :) I'll be soooo glad when all this is finished - it feels as if it's been a lifetime since beginning! Good luck with your floors!
