Kitchen labor cost

I asked my kitchen designer to recommend a general contractor for update the kitchen, including removing and installing new cabinets, plumbing, wiring, etc. I keep the original footprint, and have the sink, refrigerator, dishwasher, and the range in the original places. When I asked him about the labor cost, the designer told me that a basic rough estimate is that the labor cost will be the same as the cost of all the purchase if I keep the original footprint. For example, if all my cost for cabinets and counter top is about $10K, and the labor cost will be around $12. I haven't talked to the contractor yet, but how do you think about the basic estimate? Is it true that labor cost will be almost the same as the purchase cost?
