I just got finished with painting my kitchen cabinets last week. It is a big job but so worth it. I LOVE my kitchen now. I will post a before and after picture.

I sanded with an orbital sander and got down to bare wood. My paint store guy told me that I really did not have to sand that much. I then cleaned with mineral spirits. I then primed with Zinser primer shellac based. I then sanded lightly and painted my first coat, light coat. I then sanded lightly, painted second coat. Sanded lightly again and painted final coat. You really should only have to paint two coats but I painted three. I used a ox hair brush that my paint guy sold me and a 4 inch foam roller. I also used oil based paint in semi gloss.

On the cabinet frames inside the house I did use the liquid sand stuff but I also lightly sanded the frames.

It took me two weeks and I really did not work much on the weekends. I would definitely do it again. I also filled in a hole in the cabinet doors because I wanted knobs instead of handles.

When you paint the frames do you paint the insides too, or keep that wood. What about inside the drawers?

Positano, I did not paint the inside of the cabinets or the drawers. I guess it is up to the individual.

I am just finishing up from taking my golden oak-ish cabinets to a great cream color with a terra cotta glaze. It took many weekends of work, but it is so worth it!

I did not sand the doors and frames first -but I did take all the doors off and then used denatured alcohol to get rid of any grime. Then I used 2 coats of Binz primer, two coats of Valspar Kitchen and Bath enamel (sanding lightly in between coats) then the terra cotta wash/glaze, then two coats of sealer. I did the same for the frames, but had to wait until a nice day to open all of the windows and doors, both the alcohol and the binz are flammable and not healthy to inhale.

I did not do anything to the drawers or insides of the cabinets as they are not wood, and are white already. I will post pictures when completed.
