Aspen Wood for Cabinet Drawers?

Wondering if anyone has used Aspen wood for their cabinets or vanity drawer boxes rather than the standard maple drawers (internals - doors will be paint grade maple). The cabinet maker is suggesting it as a possible less expensive alternative, but I am wondering about strength and durability as it appears to be a softer, lighter wood. Any ideas?

It's lighter and "softer" but as the interior of a well-built drawer, that's not an issue.
