For us in California it is a law that you need outlets in the island. But this is only if you are having inspections. So it depends on your state and permit situation.

In most places it is code every 4 feet, i believe. My island is not attached to the floor so it is a piece of furniture and you dont need them.

Do you want or need them? Or just trying to camouflage?

I believe code requires an island to have an outlet, but doesn't specify that it must be on the end. There are plenty of examples here of people who have used plugmold, or hidden the outlets in a drawer, or found other creative solutions.

I went through a lot of distress with outlets. According to our electrician/inspector, an island requires 1 outlet unless it is broken up by a sink or cooktop (like ours is) in which case it requires two. They can be under the counter as long as they are not tucked too deeply into an overhang (I forget what the exact figure was). If you use plugmold it has to be some special kind of thing that is CGFI or GFCI or some combo of letters certified. We will have ours under the counter in a way that they do not show at all.
