Need Pix of Mixed Cabinets Colors

I've picked my cabinet color(s) and am trying to decided exactly how to mix and match the two colors. I'm using Kraftmaid "Peppercorn" (very dark) and "Muslin" (sort of a linen color).

The easy way to go is the dark on the bottom; to hide dirt, dings and such over time with the lighter cabinets on top. I thought I'd do the island in the light color too.

However, my KD suggested mixing/matching them all over the kitchen. I would like to see pictures of how other people did this in their spaces. I think this could be effective if done properly - possibly giving the cabinets more of a "furniture" quality in several places.

I'd go and search through the blog, but that could take me like, well, forever!

Check out Segbrown's kitchen.

I just want to add that I had a walnut stain on my cabinets in a previous kitchen and it did nothing for hiding water marks (hard water).

As far as "hiding" things? I hold no candle to it working lol. I'm no clean freak, so no matter what goes there I'm sure to mess it up :p

The Finished Kitchens Blog (FKB) has several mixed-color kitchens. No, you don't have to search the entire FKB, just use the "FKB Categories" link in the navigation panel on the right.

Scroll down to the "Cabinets" section and look for the subcategory "Multiple colors/shades of cabinets" and "Mixed Cabinets".

Here is my 'Finished' Mixed kitchen. We moved in 1 yr. ago, still not in FKB because I keep waiting to be truly Finished, with trim, toe-kicks & decor. Certainly not for everyone, but I love it.

We have black (lower) and cream (top) and my advice would be to do the island in the darker colour. Our island takes a fair bit of abuse and i'm glad it's darker to hide more. Also I've found that the stained finish on the bottom half survives better than the painted finish, so you might want to keep that in mind too.

Jen, I love that! Your colors are close to the ones I'm using (dark brown, cream) and seeing that makes me consider using one more color (I was considering a stained green for the island). Lovely, homey kitchen you created, wonderful!

We went with natural cherry outer cabinets with an antiqued white island. Not as much contrast as some, but just enough to break things up.

Here are photos to show you the two colors we used for the cabinets. IMO 2 colors work especially well in medium-large to large kitchens.

At first, I thought the chairs should match the cabinets and we bought the chairs in the below photos until we found others, but now I like that they are a different stain.

(I've posted these before so it's possible you've seen these.)

Years ago when we did some landscaping I heard that you should do things in odd numbers. I don't know if that carries over to interior decorating but we have 3 pcs in cream: island, hutch, and hood.
