Personally, I have been looking for a sink with the drain at the back, as I understand it pushes the plumbing under the sink back toward the wall and affords more usable space at the front of the sink cabinet.

One of the reasons for drain location is being able to stuff the things like garbage disposal, etc. along the perimeter under sink. Allows more room for under sink storage like trash cans, etc.

I have a large single basin stainless sink with the drain in the center but at the very back of the sink. The plumbing will all be almost against the back wall of the sink cabinet leaving plenty of room for all the stuff I keep under my sink. We don't use a garbage disposal so that wasn't a consideration for us but if you use one that has to be considered.

My single bowl sink has the drain in the back. I like that it pushed the plumbing to the back and also it gives me plenty of room at the front of the sink to scrub a pan or whatever. My sink is in the corner so I didn't have to worry about being too close to the wall.

this is my salvaged soapstone 30" sink. I love all the room underneath, I have a Chicago wall faucet with hinged arm so I can reach all areas...no pull down for me:) c

Corner drain location allows more room under the sink for storage, and allows more room in the sink to lay down roasting pan and other large things without covering the drain which is handy.

I currently have one that's just slightly larger than what you described. I'm getting a larger one in my upcoming reno, and DH's number one mandate was that the drain be to the back/corner. I hadn't even considered that it was a possibility, but I'm very much looking forward to it now. If I have something sitting in the sink, it'll be nice to still be able to get to the garbage disposal. I imagine it'll be less of an issue in a larger sink, but smaller, I'd do that for sure.
