Sink is too far away from range/cooktop......even if you have a pot-filler faucet, you still need to carry cookware from range/cooktop to sink/dishwasher after every meal everyday......

This layout is close to scale.

I agree, switch the stove and fridge from the first to the second. I have a 10 1/2x15 1/2 kitchen and think it is plenty big! I also have two windows as we have no side neighbors (well, an elementary school). The size is quite adequate, esp with that nice, open island. You could always make the island bigger if you don't think you'll have enough storage. I sometimes look at the huge kitchen and think about how many steps they must take when making a meal! I've got 3 kids and make almost every meal at home, so I'd say your kitchen is a fine size.

Thanks for the comments. I actually put painters tape on the floor of our condo to measure out the room better. It is a nice size. I think I must have the dining room table too big making everything else look small.

If you use the virtual designer at Ikea.com or Lowes.com you can post overhead with dimensions or 3-d plans for us to see. I think your changes make a lot more sense.

Make sure and stand up for what you want with your architect or kitchen designer. A lot of time, sweat, blood, tears and money goes into a new build, and it is YOUR house to live in when it is done.
