I have to buy a GE over-the-range microwave/hood (I know, I know, I hate them too, but I don't have a choice) to match my range.

It's a small enough appliance that I don't need delivery and can just go to Lowe's and get it, rather than the slightly more complicated process through a place like AJ Madison (price difference isn't huge).

However, I have heard that some products carried by Lowe's and Home Depot, though they may have the same model number as other stores, are manufactured specifically for Lowe's and HD and are of a lower quality. Is this true?

I'm willing to go through some inconvenience if I'll get a better product. Mostly it's the PITA of having to replace it if it breaks down.
