Not sure if you're asking about aesthetics about the range-hood pairing or actual ventilation capabilities but with a chef's range you'll definitely need a higher CFM and often larger width. What kind of hood do you have posted and what are the capabilities? I plan on also using either a pull-out or a cabinet insert as well for an integrated modern look but mine will be over a cooktop not a full range.

It's my understanding that pull out hoods always show a bit of a lip under the cabinets, if that's what you're asking, just like the last pic.

Fori - poorly imaged with Paint. Eh. The hood could not be there but the range will and... I'm not sure it's the best choice for 'high modernish cherry or walnut slab cabinets'.

I think you'll be fine. We've seen on here people with really commercial looking ranges with fancy wooden vent covers above them. I've seen a lot of commercial style ranges with modern sleek hoods in really modern kitchens as well. I think it'll look just fine.
