Gorgeous counters! I love the brackets on the peninsula too -- sort of the "modern cottage" vibe the Washington Post article mentioned. Can't wait to see more photos as this kitchen comes together!!

Whit461- I read in an earlier thread that you were thinking of honed. These look like they have a higher sheen than honed- did you end up with polished? Did you have your fabricator seal with anything?

I am curious too, how far is your overhang on your peninsula? I am going to have a 12" overhang of carrera marble on my island and my fabricator said I didn't need any corbels or a bracket to brace the stone. Yours sure look nice and it makes me nervous to think there is nothing supporting it.

Belle_va, yes, very good, we wanted honed, not polished. Even though we were told they could do it, turns out the can't. We've checked around and if we go that route we can do it in place for about $500 give or take.

Kam76, our overhang is 16 inches. The brackets are 14" on the top, 18" down. Generally 30" apart. I am no expert, but have researched to death. What I understand is that Granite can hang up to 10" unsupported, but really anything over 8" needs supports at roughly every 36"+. Marble is more brittle, as I understand it, and will not self support anywhere near as much overhang as granite. I had a hard time finding brackets beyond 10", which would have left 6" hanging out there on its own. The fabricators really, really, didn't like that, and suggested at a minimum no more than 4" unsupported. Also, this is 3CM thick, 2CM probably needs a full concrete foundation for support.

If the fabricator is willing to warranty the stone and labor, OK, but I wouldn't want to leave 12" out there alone. Nor would I want it on my lap or feet when it fell. Just me.

Looks awesome -yes it was hard to watch when the seams were put together - and the installer said - no blips in the power as Sparky was working on other things - fortunately, it came out perfectly!
    Love the "Marbelous" from jketz!
