Help with island lighting....

Hello! Im new here! We are doing a self build and dry wall should be finished up in the next week. I am now starting to make final decisions on kitchen lighting and just want to make sure what I choose will look okay.

Brief details on kitchen are expresso full overlay shaker cabinets, I want brush nickel knob and pulls, stainless steel appliances,some recess lighting, opened to the living room, a 10.5 ft long island.

What I am unsure about is the island lighting. We will have 4 single pendants over the island with them spaced out at about 32 inches. If we are doing brushed nickel knobs/pulls can I do oil rubbed bronze pendants? And is there a particular color of glass shade I should do (white vs the antiqued colored)? What size of glass shade? We will also have a pendant over the sink.

If it helps, I have an 8' island with 3 mini pendants that are about 24" apart and it looks if proportion.

You can go with another finish on the lighting, but typically you want to keep the finishes all the same...something silver or satin nickel would be best.

What color is your counter?

Your combo is something that Candace Olson uses on divine design a lot. You might want to check out some of her rooms for lighting ideas. She is a master of lighting.

We do not have our counters ordered yet, we have a few in mind and they are all tan in color.

rizzy - I have dark cabinets with stainless pulls and stainless appliances, my lighting is black and oil rubbed bronze. I like the mix of metals. Our Island is 7' 3" X 46" and we have two large pendant lights.

I have different finishes...SS aapliances, gray pendants, and orb handles. My pendants are about 12" wide and there are two over my 7 ft island. This was my almost finished kitchen...

I have a 8 foot island/peninsula really with a wolf induction cooktop in the center.
Can I use pendants? I was told by a lighting sales person that I could only use metal and not glass?
Anyone know about this? It was not going to hand directly over the cooktop.

I never thought of mixing the hardware but I love the look of yours, rtwilliams! Do you mind sharing what your pulls are? Brianadarnell, your pendants are gorgeous!

Weimom - Thanks, they are a traditional and contemporary look. The pulls are Hickory hardware - We bought them at Menards they have 2 sizes ours are the larger , they are total of 5 inch long with a 96 mm hole location.

Brianadarnell: I love your kitchen layout and the choice of pendant lights. Where are they from? Would you mind me asking what brand cabinetry you used? I love the color combo.
