breakfast room table

I have looked everywhere and the measurements seem impossible. We have a breakfast room off of the kitchen, partly open through an arch, and I want a table to be made for the space. The room is 9 6 x 9 9. I can't put a banquet in the space because of doors. What size table can I use? All of the sites say 48" on each side but that would give me a 1x2 table. Any input?

I have a similar BR. It is probably 10'x10'. We have a round 40" table with (sort of) slim cafe-style chairs and don't feel any "discomfort".
