cupboard door hardware type

I am new to this forum and new to renos also! We are replacing our cupboards and have chosen a shaker style with a medium stain that will compliment my venetian bronze accessories. I wish to install the same colour hardware on my doors and drawers. My problem is what type. To clarify, I had thought knob style for the doors and pull style for the drawers. However, I'm being told by friends that knobs are out and all should be pulls although the door pulls to be installed vertically and the drawers horizontally. I'd be interested in your comments and suggestions please. Thank you.

I hate to go by what's IN and what's OUT. What do YOU like? It's your kitchen and you probably won't be remodeling again for a long time, so you have to live with it! Get what you LOVE!!

It is completely and totally up to you and what YOU prefer. I more of a pull person so I installed a kitchen full. AND, all are oriented horizontally. :)

One thing to take into account if thinking about knobs on lower cabs, many of us (me included) consider those to be clothes grabbers. Hopefully Willtv jumps in to show you his knob-only kitchen. It's really cool, and he says they don't rip clothes at his house. Good luck!

I have pulls on the bottom and knobs on the top. I just wanted variety and like the look. I also figured that it would be easy to change out the knobs if I ever wanted to change the look of my kitchen. Don't do want your friends want to do - it isn't their kitchen. Choose pulls and knobs that function well and have the look that you want. The knobs and pulls don't even have to be from the same family. Do something practical on the bottom and whimsical on the top if you want to.

When we were making this decision not long ago, I came to the conclusion that you can do what you like, there is no standard for what and where. We went with pulls on the lowers and knobs on the uppers, but knobs on the pantry and a pull on the utility closet.

You even have to deal with where on a door/drawer to put a knob/pull. Breezy's decision to put her upper pulls horizontal isn't the most common choice, but not bizarre either. Some people put a drawer pull in the middle of the drawer, others go with a pull at the top. We put ours in the middle of the shallower drawers and at the top of the deeper ones.

See the 4 knobs on the 4 pantry doors? We could have put the 2 lower ones down towards the middle of the door somewhere, but we liked them in a group of 4, so that's what we did.

There is no right or wrong here, so just do what you like.
