Depends! I recommend that you post a very specific question (model, refurbisher, etc.) in the Appliance forum.

There are three important parts to a hood: The canopy, the blower and the duct. There are all kinds of interplays between the sizes of each, etc., that determine how well it would function.

Assuming it's an appropriate size/power/guts hood for your set-up, and that the fan motor has been refurbished, rather than just the canopy has been cleaned, there's no reason why not. This is especially true if it's from the maker and has a warranty. If it had a problem and was returned to the maker, and they fixed it, it's basically good as new.

I had a not very old, not highly used, cheapest model of a high end hood, which I put in when we moved into this house and weren't able to remodel the kitchen--which had no vent. I donated it to the Habitat store. It was a fabulous hood with nothing wrong with it except that it wouldn't fit in my new kitchen. Similarly, my friend got a fantastic hood at a thrift shop! It needed a little TLC, but it was a workhorse.

Hoods are really simple devices.

thanks to both of u! we are looking at a kitchenaid 30" under the cabinet hood. We like the look of it and bought all KA appliances so thought it would look nice- not married to the KA but if it's a good hood we thought why not? :) if anyone knows of any reason why to not purchase a KA hood I;d love to hear the reviews.
