Here's another picture that shows more of the matt finish on the bottom tiles. The matt finish does look fake in person but I wanted you to see more of the pattern to see if its too busy.

Hard to tell on my monitor, but over the last several years there have been tremendous improvements in the creation of the "marble look" tiles.

One thing I did notice in looking at these types of tiles locally, is that each brand contains a specific number of prints. So the patterns may (will) repeat within a given box.

If you go with these tiles, lay them all out in advance to avoid having duplicate prints stacked together.

I did matte Carrera porcelain tile on the boys bathroom floor. That was eight years ago and frankly it doesn't look as good as the real thing. The backsplash may be a more noticeable spot than the floor. Properly sealed, marble should be ok.

I think it's beautiful, but I think you should hold out for the right slab, look for liquidations, scan CL and salvage yards. Why? Your bs is never going to stain like a counter slab might, so the benefits of porcelain are pretty much lost on the vertical surface.

As to whether it looks real, look for pixelation. If you can detect any it will look fake. Also, resist the urge (I don't know why people do this) to use porcelain and actual marble in the same space. Nothing will make the faux look faux-er than having it abut the real thing.
